Grade-level specific summer institutes

Participants who complete the week-long institute will receive 2 graduate credits in history from George Mason University as well as a $100 stipend. The primary summer institute consists of five workshop days focusing on American history content, historical thinking skills,and teaching strategies. There is also an option to earn one additional graduate credit by attending two extension workshop dates. During this time, teachers will attend a field trip and work among colleagues to develop new lessons for the upcoming school year that incorporate historical thinking skills and align with the new 2.0 curriculum standards. Core Workshop Dates (2 credits)
June 24-28th
OR
July 8-12th, 2013

With Extension Dates (+ 1 credit)
July 23rd: One-day field trip to Jamestown (4th grade) or Yorktown (5th grade)
July 24th: Follow-up discussion and lesson planning

Additional program information

  • All workshops will be full day workshops, please plan to attend between 7:30am and 4:00pm during the week in which you apply
  • All workshops will be held in MCPS

A week-long advanced institute for returning teachers
